Our hospital successfully held the 2016 “English Lecture Competition”

Our hospital successfully held the 2016 “English Lecture Competition” on November 15th to  promote the English teaching and international education of our college and strengthen the faulty building of English teachers. 13 young teachers from the GynecologyDepartment, Reproductive Center, Anesthesiology Department and Nursing Department participated in the competition.

Despite that it’s the first time for most of the teachers to demonstrate themselves on English teaching platform, their impressive performance brings unexpected surprises to everyone. The fluent professional English, the vivid PPT presentation, the tacit interaction between teachers and students, the live demonstration of the teaching aids and the timely introduction of the teaching video make the class of just over ten minutesentertaining. The lectures of the participating teachers cover various disciplines such as gynaecology, reproductive medicine, anesthesiology, and nursing. The class features rich teaching content, flexible teaching methods, diversified teaching forms, which fully demonstrates the overall strength of our English teaching. For the competition, we have one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes and seven encouragement prizes. After the expert review,, Yang Yang from the reproductive center won the first prize, Feng Xiao from the gynecology department and Chen Yunting from the nursing department won the second prize.

After the competition, Chen Xiaoping, a foreign professor from the Tongji University School of Medicine, made a splendid review on the competition. As the lecturer of the "Medical English" course favored by students, she combines years of teaching experience to explain to everyone in a simple way that the most important thing to do in a class is to do the following three things: Knowledgeable, Passionate, Skillful storyteller. In the classroom, we must seize the attention of students, and should not read the PPT. The teachers are actors with strong logic. Each class tells a story. During performance, it’s required to truly care for students.She spoke highly of the high enthusiasm of the nursing department for participating in the lecture competition, and gave effective suggestions for the deficiencies in the design of the lectures. Director Liu Zhiqiang of the  AnesthesiologyDepartment mentioned that he was delightful that the hospital provided such a stage for young teachers to showcase themselves. The speakers must understand the needs and levels of the audience in advance and use appropriate language, methods to meet their needs. Director Guo Xiaoqing of the GynecologyDepartment pointed out that, generally speaking, the contestants in the English lecture competition in our hospitalwere all excellent. However, certain deficiencies exist, such as the dull PPT design; further improvement required in professional English, lack of teacher-student interaction, lack of body language expression, lack of passion and lack of self-confidence. We lookforward to better improvement through exercise!

We allenjoyed the whole process of the English lecture competition. Through communication and learning, we learned a lot. Regardless of the reviewing experts or the contestants, they believed that the competition not only provided a stage for young teachers to showcase themselves, but also excavated a group of potential English teachers for the hospital.
