Newborn Simulation Training Camp in the Eyes of Reporters

Date:2016-11-18

According to statistics, in 2015, nearly 200,000 newborns were delivered in Shanghai. Among these children, nearly 20,000 have been resuscitated. That is to say, one of the ten children needs the help of a newborn doctor to have the first breath when they are born. The neonatal medical community in Shanghai has been committed to allowing these children smoothly make the first cry, spontaneously breathe. Recently, the most expensive “baby’ worthy of 400,000 yuan appeared in Shanghai, and he will help doctors receive better training.

"Effective ventilation for 30 seconds""heart rate still less than 60 times per minute""prepare chest compression". In the operating room, four medical staffs are busy around the newborn rescue station, but the only difference is that they are not facing the newborn who just fell, but a medical simulation robot that can simulate various physiological reactions.

As we all know, the establishment of the first breath after the birth of a newborn is critical. According to statistics, nearly one in ten newborns need a certain degree of help from a doctor to establish spontaneous breathing after birth. This process of help is called “resuscitation". Effective resuscitation can help newborns establish breathing in a timely manner and smoothly transition from the mother's uterus to the outside. On the contrary, the condition of the newborn will worsen, affect the prognosis, and even lead to death.

However, the way to properly apply the resuscitation technique in the process of intense and complex resuscitation requires the training of the medical team. The traditional teaching method is classroom education. Doctors lack practical training and it is difficult to ensure accurate application in practical work. However, at present, the latest simulated robots have finally provided the perfect solution for the training of newborn resuscitation.

The scene at the beginning of the article is the training content observed by the reporter at the "2016 Newborn Simulated Resuscitation Training Camp" class of the Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital. In the second half of October, the Neonatology Department of the hospital took advanced simulation training methods for neonatal resuscitation training for the first time. Based on the latest US Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines of the 2015 American AHA, the course applies the international training approach for neonatal resuscitation. The most amazing thing is that this "baby" can simulate neonatal arrhythmia, respiratory distress, pneumothorax, hypotension and other emergencies that may occur during childbirth. According to the doctor's operation, the symptoms can be alleviated, or the symptoms can be aggravated so as to present the most authentic experience for trainers.

Different from adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation, according to foreign authoritative statistics, the success rate of neonatal resuscitation is over 90%. However, due to the lack of uniform regulation for neonatal resuscitation in the long-term, especially the lack of standardized training of teamwork, as one of the rescue centers for critically ill newborns in Shanghai, the hospital will make full use of the modern medical simulation training center put into use at the beginning of the year, introduce advanced foreign models and procedures, and provide innovative and efficient clinical technique improvement for national medical staff through regular training courses and other modes.

The simulation training was first originated from the training mode of the pilot. Since the invention of the flight simulator, the pilot training has been accelerated, and the incidence of flight accidents has been greatly reduced. The medical itself is also a practical subject, which can not be fully utilized through the knowledge on books. The application of medical simulation training has greatly improved the doctor's practical application skills. The neonatal resuscitation simulation training is to help the neonatal medical staff to carry out effective skill training in a safe environment and to exercise comprehensive strain application by using computer software to simulate the complex changes of different newborns after birth, carry out effective ability training to improve teamwork and communication to ensure and improve the resuscitation success rate of newborns.
