Structures completed on key buildings at Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital’s east branch

The structural work of the Oncology Center and Academic Building of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital’s east branch was completed on March 17.

The hospital's leadership, former leaders and experts, medical and healthcare staff and representatives from all parties attended a ceremony for the major achievement. The event was presided over by Wang Wengang, vice president of the hospital.

The project, which began on May 9, 2021, boasts a total construction area of 53,180 square meters, with 41,180 square meters above ground and 12,000 square meters below ground. 

The state-of-the-art facility serves as a comprehensive hub for medical care, scientific research, and education, specifically tailored for gynecological oncology. 

Upon completion, it is expected to provide ample space to support the hospital's growth in medical services, research and teaching. It will also offer the necessary infrastructure for clinical innovation, discipline development, research expansion, and medical service enhancement. 

It will contribute to achieving the hospital's goal of becoming a leading institution in the healthcare industry.

The Shanghai Shenkang Medical Construction Project Public Management Center, the project management, extended congratulations and gratitude to the hospital and all involved in the construction.

They encouraged the construction, design and supervisory entities to emphasize the importance of creating a national-class project characterized by excellence, safety and harmony.

Wang Yu, president of the hospital conveyed her warm regards to the construction workers who had persevered through adverse weather conditions days and nights.

She also expressed gratitude to the patients and staff members who have shown understanding and support for the hospital's development. 

"It marks a crucial milestone and signifies the hospital's advancement to a new stage of development and embarking on a new journey,” Wang said. 

“The staff of the hospital will seize this opportunity, uphold the hospital's principles, and continue to work diligently for the benefit of women and children nationwide," she added.

The attending leaders added the final batch of concrete to the structure, marking the topping-out of the center and the building. The east branch is on track to complete its physical construction by the end of 2023, with full a completion expected in May 2024.
