Department of Pathology
The Pathology Department of Shanghai First Maternal and Child Health Hospital was founded in 1956 and is one of the earliest pathology departments established in China. It is one of the leading departments in perinatal pathology in China, and has accumulated over 3000 experience in autopsy of perinatal infants. The department is also the first standardized training base for pathological residents in Shanghai (in conjunction with the Pathology Department of Huashan Hospital affiliated to Huashan Hospital) and the first training base for pathological specialists (female reproductive and breast pathology) in Shanghai.
The department has advanced equipment, standardized diagnosis and treatment processes, and reasonable space. There are currently 32 employees on duty, including 16 pathologists and 16 technical personnel. Among the doctors, there are 2 Chief physician, 2 associate Chief physician, 3 with doctor's degrees and 13 masters' degrees; Among the technical personnel, there are 4 supervisory technicians and 4 master's degree holders. Each year, the department completes more than 50000 routine cases, nearly 6000 frozen cases, over 100000 cytological cases, over 50000 immunohistochemical cases, over 1000 pathological consultations, dozens of perinatal autopsies, and over 5000 placental pathology cases.
The department undertook the standardized cell training course of cervical cytology of the Colposcopy and cervical pathology branch of the Chinese Society of Eugenics Sciences (CSCCP) and the national and municipal continuing education classes of obstetrics and gynecology pathology. The department has long undertaken the teaching work of the "Post Training for Professional Personnel of Vaginal and Cervical Exfoliated Cells" class organized by the Shanghai Women's Health Institute entrusted by the Maternal and Child Affairs Department of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau, as well as the annual quality control work of the Shanghai Cytology Census; the departmentI have been receiving continuing education as a doctor for many years, and have trained and cultivated a group of obstetrics and gynecology pathology professionals for this city and other provinces and cities.
The department have completed 4 national and municipal level projects, published more than 10 SCI papers and more than 20 statistical source papers in recent years.

1. Gynecological histopathological diagnosis (female reproductive tract tumors, trophoblastic cell diseases, endometrial functional lesions);
2. Obstetrical histopathological diagnosis (placental and perinatal autopsy pathological diagnosis);
3. Pathological diagnosis of breast tissue;
4. Gynecological cytological diagnosis;
5. Molecular pathology testing (HPV detection, RNA Scope hybridization detection, endometrial cancer molecular detection, ovarian cancer HRD, first and second generation sequencing, etc.).
