Ultrasound Department

The ultrasound Department of Shanghai First Maternal and Infant Health Hospital was founded in 1973. In the past 50 years, the ultrasound Department has always kept up with the times, gradually developed and expanded. Now it is the doctoral degree program of ultrasonic medicine of Tongji University. It has a perfect echelon, sophisticated equipments, rigorous diagnosis and strict teaching，plays a unique and important role in clinical diagnosis and treatment.

In 1988, our department took the lead in carrying out transvaginal ultrasound examination and was the first hospital in Shanghai to carry out such examination. In the same year, it was recognized as the ultrasound consultation center of shanghai obstetrics and gynecology. In the 1990s, color doppler ultrasound was carried out, and in 2000, three-dimensional ultrasound imaging was first carried out in Shanghai. Since 2001, prenatal ultrasound screening for fetal malformations has been carried out, and since 2017, fetal cardiac ultrasound, adult cardiac ultrasound, and female pelvic floor ultrasound have been carried out. In 2018, Professor Ren Min, the academic leader, was introduced as the director of the ultrasound department. The adult cardiac ultrasound, deep lower extremity vein ultrasound, pelvic floor ultrasound were expanded. New projects such as ultrasonic salpingography, neonatal lung ultrasound, breast and cervical elastic ultrasound, endometrial receptive ultrasound, and thyroid ultrasound have been carried out successively, which has brought the business of the ultrasound department to a higher level.

At present, there are 41 professional ultrasound doctors in the department, including 1 doctoral supervisor, 3 doctoral degree holders, 24 master degree holders, 11 senior doctors and 16 intermediate doctors.

Since 1986, our department began to hold continuing education classes in obstetrics and gynecology, train doctors and technicians for Shanghai. Now we receive and train doctors and technicians from all over the country throughout the year.

Combined with the characteristics of obstetrics and gynecology, the ultrasound department is all patient-centered. We do examinations carefully, make the diagnosis accurately , and are always ready to cooperate in the transport of critical patients, and strive for every second for life. The ultrasound department has never stopped the pace of progress. We strive to build a first-class team, and make unremitting efforts to protect pregnant women, newborns, and every woman's health.
