Cervical Department
The Cervical Department of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital is a specialized department that integrates clinical practice, scientific research, and teaching. It includes cervical outpatient clinics, colposcopy clinics, laser clinics, HPV vaccine clinics, and provide internet medical service. The department excels in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the female lower reproductive tract infection, with years of various diagnostic and treatment techniques such as colposcopy, LEEP procedure, laser, cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and cold knife cone biopsy. It has reached a first-class level in cervical cancer screening, laser treatment of epithelial neoplasia in the female lower reproductive tract infection, treatment of cervical precancerous lesions, early diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions during pregnancy, diagnosis and management of various vulvar diseases of the complex and refractory types. Every year, the department receives nearly 110,000 outpatient visits, performs approximately 25,000 colposcopy examinations, and conducts 1,600 cervical cone surgeries and cervical physical therapies respectively.
The department has nine full-time senior and intermediate medical professionals who are highly experienced specialists in cervical diseases. Among them, there is one chief physician, five associate chief physicians, and three attending physicians, including one with a doctoral degree and six with master's degrees. Additionally, there are six full-time nurses. The department is responsible for more than 10 research topics for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission. We have published over 100 research papers (including more than 40 SCI papers) and obtained four patents.
The department is equipped with one master's supervisor and has trained dozens of visiting physicians, whose graduates are found throughout the country. We have hosted national-level cervical disease training courses and contributed to the book “Practical Colposcopy Techniques”.
Currently, we have launched the "Cervical Department of First Maternity and Infant Hospital" WeChat official account, with over ten thousand followers. We aims to disseminate knowledge of popular science while striving to build a new platform for doctor-patient communication, thereby enhancing the department's impact. Several popular science articles have been republished in magazines such as Comfortable Life and Life Times.
