DEPARTMENT

Reproductive Immunology Department

The Department of Reproductive Immunology at Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital was established in August 2015. Originally stemming from a specialized outpatient clinic for managing recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). it has now emerged as a distinctive subspecialty within the hospital, focusing on reproductive and immunological diseases. The department is actively engaged in medical, teaching, scientific research, and internet-centered activities, comprising a dynamic and energetic team of specialists in reproductive and immunological diseases.

The diagnostic and treatment scope of the department encompasses a wide range of conditions, including RPL, recurrent implantation failure (RIF), recurrent biochemical pregnancy, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS), ovarian dysfunction, menstrual disorders, abnormal uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, hyperprolactinemia, premature puberty, abnormal sexual development, as well as the prevention and management of autoimmune diseases such as antiphospholipid syndrome(APS) in female patients during pre-pregnancy and pregnancy.

Currently, the department consists of 14 clinical doctors, 1 ultrasound physician, 2 laboratory technicians, and 1 nurse. Among them, there are 3 individuals holding the senior title of full professor, 3 with the senior title of associate professor, 4 with the title of chief physician, and 5 possessing a doctoral degree. Additionally, there are 7 members with a master's degree. The department also includes 2 doctoral advisors providing guidance to doctoral students. Notably, one of our advisors is a distinguished national talent recognized in the "Thousand Talents" Program, making remarkable contributions to the country.

The Department of Reproductive Immunology has implemented an innovative three-level triage system, which facilitates the rational allocation of medical resources, reduces healthcare costs for patients, and enhances their clinical experience. Through comprehensive screening of etiologies, we provide precise treatment, resulting in an unprecedented rate of clinical pregnancy and patient satisfaction. The department has successfully treated over 60% of patients originating from outside Shanghai, establishing itself as one of the leading centers for RPL treatment on an international and domestic scale. We have effectively managed challenging cases of refractory recurrent miscarriage involving 13 and 14 spontaneous losses, while actively contributing to the development of 6 Chinese expert consensus papers related to RPL. Our influence within the industry continues to grow steadily.

As research leaders, the members of our department have undertaken over 20 national projects in the past five years. These include key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, general natural science foundation projects, national natural science foundation youth fund, sub-projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology's 863 Program, projects supported by the National Key Research and Development Program, key projects funded by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Science and Technology, as well as various collaborative research initiatives. Our contributions extend to publishing over 100 SCI-indexed papers, filing 12 patent applications, and receiving 7 awards for provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievements. Additionally, for seven consecutive years, we have successfully organized a nationally recognized continuing education program on "Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and Female Reproductive Immunology," attracting fellows from across the country to promote standardized diagnosis and treatment of recurrent miscarriage.

The Department of Reproductive Immunology is dedicated to providing scaled, systematic, and standardized diagnosis and treatment for reproductive immunology and endocrine diseases. We strive to become a leading discipline in the field, guided by our motto: "We help you conceive, sustain, and deliver!"
