Gynecology
As the key clinicdiscipline of top priority in Shanghai and the key discipline of Tongji University School of Medicine, gynecology consists of five subspecialties: general gynaecology, gynecological oncology, reproductive surgery, pelvic floor reconstruction and gynecologicalHIFU. Gynecology targets at creating a compound clinical research discipline with distinctive treatment features torealize leap-forward development in all aspects of medicine, education and research. Each subspecialty has gradually developed distinctive features.
At present, gynecological clinics setfeatured clinics such as endocrine clinic, uterine fibroid clinic, ovarian cyst clinic, gynecological urology and pelvic reconstruction clinic, tumor follow-up clinic, chemotherapy clinic, hysteroscopic clinic and preoperative clinic.
Gynecology proficiently carries out surgeries including laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, endometrial cancer staging, ovarian carcinoma cytoreductive surgery, single-port laparoscopic surgery, transvaginal NOTES surgery, laparoscopic sacral colpopexy, transvaginal hysterectomy for non-prolapsed uterus, pelvic floor reconstruction, uterine fibroid and adenomyosis HIFU surgery, various genital tract malformations diorthosis. In 2017, more than 1300 cases of gynecologic malignant tumors were performed, including 3/4 minimally invasive surgeries and over 10,000 cases of hospitalized endoscopic surgeries, of which the level-4 endoscopic surgery accounts for more than 1/5; HIFU surgery and pelvic floor surgery are carried out stably, which well adapt to the patient's medical needs.
In recent years, gynecology has conducted a series of innovative and featuredsurgeries. The gynecologic oncology team with Professor Wan Xiaoping and Professor Guo Xiaoqing as core undertook laparoscopic vaginal resection + sigmoid colon with vaginoplasty, radical trachelectomy with preservation of uterine artery, radical parametrium ectomy, endometrial cancer sentinel node development technology and other cutting-edge new technologies and successfully diagnosed and treated many patients with pregnancy complicating uterine cervix cancer, thus achieving good social influence; the gynecological minimally invasive team with Professor Sun Jing as the core successfully carried out single-port and transvaginal NOTES surgery, and completed the first anastomosis of tube of transumbilical single-port laparoscopic in the country.The LGCS surgery under the vaginal NOTES ranks among the top in the world. Led by Professor Ai Xingzi·Ai Li, the gynecological HIFU team has achieved good results in the treatment of uterine fibroid and adenomyosis withthe therapeutic effect and the quantitative growth rate ranking top in the industry. In 2017, our hospital delivered 6 cases of "HIFU baby" after HIFU. The gynecological pelvic floor team led by Professor Dai Zhiyuan conducted laparoscopic inguinal ligament suspension surgery and laparoscopic sacral colpopexy, which have achieved good short-term and long-term effects and become one of the featured surgeries of gynecology.
At present, with 11 chief physicians, 12 deputy chief physicians, 6 doctoral supervisors, and 7 master supervisors, Gynecology won 21 scientific research projects at various levels, which included 7 NSFC projects, 7 provincial and municipal projects, 7 bureau-level projects, and 30 papers published, including 23 papers included in SCI in 2017.
In 2017, the “APAGE&SFMIH Tumor Special Session/Single-port Laparoscopic Special Session” was held, which gathered many famous gynaecologists from home and abroad to focus on the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic malignant tumors, minimally invasive techniques, comprehensive treatment of cervical diseases and chronic pelvic pain. From different perspectives and deep levels, new developments and technological applications in these fields have been demonstrated and well-received.
HIFU treatment center
The Hifu Treatment Center of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital is an advanced gynecology Hifu sub-discipline within and abroad from China. Our center specializes in high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation (High-intensity focused ultrasound, HIFU) technology-based stepwise treatment of adenomyosis, also standardized individualized minimally invasive and humanistic treatment of uterine fibroids.Our center performs nearly 500 HIFU treatments annually and, under the leadership of Professor Ai Xingzi Ai Li, has achieved significant advancements in innovative and specialized surgeries for adenomyosis and uterine fibroids, forming a distinct sub-disciplinary expertise and recognition with positive academic and social impact.
The Hifu Center of our hospital is now also the Hifu Micro-Non-Invasive Therapy Center of the National Engineering Research Center for Ultrasound Medicine, the High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Technology Research Cooperation Base of the National Engineering Research Center for Ultrasound Medicine, and the 2021 Excellence Unit for Clinical Application of Hifu Knife. At present, we host and participate in a number of scientific research projects, and have published more than ten SCI papers and Chinese core journal papers.
HIFU Gynecology Center not only focuses on the improvement of medical volume, but also pays attention to the standardization and quality control of HIFU treatment. With vigorous promotion of the concept of minimally invasive treatment throughout the world, non-invasive treatment will face new breakthroughs develop rapidly. HIFU Gynecology Center treats HIFU comprehensive treatment and precise individualized treatment as its significant advantages, and provides patients with a comfortable treatment mode full of humanistic care. Since September 2017, the first "HIFU Infant" was born in our hospital after the operation of HIFU. At present, there are now nearly 100 cases of "HIFU Infants" successfully delivered after treatment in our hospital. At present, the treatment effect and quantity growth rate of HIFU in our hospital has played a leading role in Shanghai, ranking as the leading edge of the industry, and have won the recognition and praise
Introduction: Reproductive Surgery Department has performed minimally invasive surgery such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy surgery to protect female fertility . Minimally invasive procedure such as uterine fibroid, ovarian cyst, endometriosis, uterine caesarean section scar diverticulum, female infertility, reproductive tract malformations, intrauterine diseases and early gynecological malignancies were carried out. Single-port laparoscopic surgery, vNOTES, Da Vinci robotic surgery, and fourth grade hysteroscopic surgery are characteristic surgeries in our department.
There were 39 beds in our ward. The number of outpatients is about 35000 every year. The operation volume is about 3500 every year .
Talents: The department was the one of the doctorate degree awarding unit of Tongji University.There were 14 doctors in our ward,including 6 professor physicians, 4 attending physicians in the department, all of whom had master's degree or above. The director of the department, is a leading talent in Shanghai and a special allowance expert of the State Council. She has won awards such as the Second Prize for Medical Science and Technology Progress in Shanghai, the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Promotion Award, and the Third Prize for Shanghai Science and Technology as the first completer.
Research strength: The development of the department was based on the combination of clinical research with basic research. There was one postdoctoral physician in the department. There were 11 projects research,including Shanghai Leading Talent Project and the National Natural Youth Fund Project. Nearly one hundred papers published in SCI and core journals in recent years. Professor Sun Jing was the chief editor of the monograph “Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome”and the deputy chief editor of the monograph “Gynecological Endoscopic Surgery via Natural Cavity”.She also participated in the compilation of three books and translation of “ Williams Gynaecology”.
Teaching ability: There was one tutor guiding doctoral /post doctoral program in our department.There were total ten on-the-training doctors throughout the year in our team.We held two national continuing education project, four sessions of hysteroscopic surgery training , eighteen sessions of single-port laparoscopy surgery training in recent 5 years.
International communication: We emphasizes international communication. We have held the annual APAGE Shanghai regional Conference since 2017.We have succeeded in holding the APAGE&SFMIH forum for five times. At the APAGE board meeting in September 2021, Professor Sunjing successfully won the right to host the 2025 APAGE Annual Conference . This will also be the first time that the annual meeting of the international organization for Minimally Invasive Gynecology be held in Shanghai.
