As the first batch of national key clinical specialties, the department of obstetrics is divided into three subunits——Maternal Medicine, General Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine. The East West and South campus all provide obstetrics service and implement the attending physician management system. In 2017, the number of childbirth reaches nearly 30,000, ranking top in China and first in Shanghai.
Maternal medicine is dedicated to the management of pregnant women suffering from high-risk pregnancy. It aims at placenta implantation abnormalities, establishes a complete standardized management process, reduces the rate of severe postpartum hemorrhage and hysterectomy and reaches the international advanced level. Maternal Medicine is alsocharacterized by cervical incompetence-related abortion and preterm delivery diagnosis and treatment with different surgical interventions during "pre-pregnancy - antenatal" period, establishing a complete cervical incompetence-related abortion and preterm delivery management process.In the aspect of"gestational endocrine disease", Thyroid Disease Clinic, Gestational Diabetes Clinic are established. The screening and prevention system for high-risk pregnant women suffering from "Pregnancy-induced Hypertension" is established to provide specialized and individualized services.
General Obstetricslay emphasis on the management of Labor and Delivery , development and promotion of vaginal delivery techniques and the implementation of reduction of cesarean section rate project; Through the delivery techniquesl training, process optimization, quality control and drill practice it continues to improve the homogeneity and standardized management of labor and delivery room of three campuses; establishes a multidisciplinary rapid response team consisting of “obstetric, ICU, anesthesiology, neonatology”; promote techniques of vaginal birth after cesarean(VBAC) and breech cephalic version In 2017,the department of obstetrics received 3 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 3 provincial and ministerial projects, and 5 bureau-level projects.
