The second case of hematopoietic stem cell volunteer was successfully donated in Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, it's also the 418th case in Shanghai. This is a relay for life between Shanghai and Beijing.

At 9 am on December 13th, with the start of the blood cell centrifuge in Shanghai, this will ignite the hope of a boy and his family in Beijing.

The donator of hematopoietic stem cells who is lying on the bed is Zhao Pu, a physician of neonatology in Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital. Dr.Zhao told the reporter that he volunteered with the China hematopoietic stem cell donor database (CMM) at a party event in 2011. In the summer of 2017, he suddenly received the news from the Red Cross that he had successfully matched a high-resolution model with a leukemia patient in Beijing.

The success rate of nearly one in a million matches is not easy. As a medical worker, Dr. Zhao did not hesitate to donate hematopoietic stem cells, but his family had a lot concern that it would harmful to his body. Dr. Zhao thought a clever way that he invited the classmate in hematology department to have a special training for family member and only spent one day to unique the thoughts.

'Our family usually stay at home in spare time. After deciding to donate, I always accompany Zhao Pu to go out for a walk for losing weight and want to make his body stronger' said by Jiang Li, who is the wife of Dr. Zhao standing next to the bed. Surprisingly, after receiving the support of his family, the patients in Beijing did not send any message at all. The family worried about the patient's condition.

The turning point came in late October this year that Dr. Zhao received news of a pre-donation medical examination. At this point, the family no longer opposed. 'Only knows that it's a leukemia patient from Beijing, a 90's boy.' The love between Beijing and Shanghai will continue to link up. The doctor born in 1980's will bring hope to a young life with the seeds of love.

On December 9th, Zhao Pu was admitted to the ward of Shanghai First People's Hospital. He explained to his 9-year-old son that his father would be hospitalized for a period of time and that donating cells to a patient could save him. His innocent child felt excited and encouraged his father ‘Go, dad!’

As a neonatologist, Dr. Zhao spends all his working hours dealing with premature babies. 'It is doctor's duty to heal the wounded and rescue the dying.'

The reporter has learned that this is the 418th case of hematopoietic stem cell donor in Shanghai, and also the second case in Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, the first donator, Tan Weilin, the chief physician, has donated on Oct 16th, 2014.

Yang Xinchao, the party secretary of the hospital, said that the donation of hematopoietic stem cells is a humanitarian act to save lives and benefit society, which is inherently consistent with the 'kind' hospital culture and philosophy the hospital has always adhered to.

Every year, a lot of young medical staff actively respond to join the China Marrow Donor Program. Zhao Pu is one of the best examples. The hospital will provide the greatest support for the medical staff who volunteer for public welfare services to promote positive energy.
